The Buddhist Chaplaincy was founded by the Buddhist Society for the support of Buddhist chaplaincy.

Spiritual advisers

Venerable N. Sumana

A spiritual adviser of the project, Nepalese Buddhist monk, teaches religious education and provides spiritual support to the Nepalese community including the Gurkhas.

Venerable Ananda Mangala

A spiritual adviser of the project, Theravãdan Buddhist monk and chaplain in the National Health Service.


Frederick R Hyde-Chambers OBE

Chairman of Kalyãna Mitra and council member of The Buddhist Society London, he practises in the Tibetan tradition.

Dr Sunil Kariyakarawana

Buddhist Chaplain to Her Majesty's Armed Forces, Director of Kalyãna Mitra, Spiritual Director Armed Forces Buddhist Society (AFBS), he practises in the Theravãdan tradition.
